BorgWarner wins heavy-duty diesel engine supply contract in Europe

finance.yahoo.com · May 7, 2026 · 12:03

BorgWarner has won a supply contract from an unnamed major European commercial vehicle OEM for a variable turbine geometry (VTG) turbocharger and exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) cooler.

The contract covers a Euro 7-compliant, 6-cylinder heavy-duty diesel engine platform, with production due to start at the end of 2028.

BorgWarner said the win increases its position in the on-highway commercial vehicle segment and continues its work with the customer.

The components are intended for long-haul truck applications and are designed to help meet Euro 7 emissions standards while supporting fuel efficiency and vehicle performance requirements.

For this application, the VTG turbocharger was developed with a tailored cartridge and turbine housing design.

It also includes ball bearings intended to improve transient response and fuel efficiency, as well as a high-efficiency compressor design for demanding operating conditions.

The EGR cooler uses an internal plate design aimed at improving thermal performance and exhaust gas recirculation efficiency.

BorgWarner said it also has a floating core architecture to improve durability under severe thermal cycling conditions.

Manufacturing will take place at BorgWarner’s sites in Bradford, UK, and Vigo, Spain.

BorgWarner vice president and Turbos and Thermal Technologies president and general manager Volker Weng said: “We are pleased to further expand our relationship with this customer on our jointly developed turbocharger and EGR cooler business for a premium heavy-duty engine platform.

“This award reflects BorgWarner’s ability to combine advanced technology, strong application engineering and competitive solutions to support demanding commercial vehicle applications.”

In March this year, BorgWarner also secured a new electric cross differential programme with a Chinese original equipment manufacturer.

The company said the eXD system was designed for a 48V system and integrated with the customer’s 48V electrical and electronic architecture.

According to BorgWarner, the programme is its first 48V eXD application in its global portfolio and broadens its torque management capabilities for electric vehicles.
