Ste. Michelle Wine Estates names second CEO in four months

Ste. Michelle Wine Estates has named David Richardson as CEO, its second chief executive appointment in four months.

Richardson succeeds David Bowman, who had been appointed CEO in January, a month after the Wyckoff family acquired Ste. Michelle Wine Estates’ operations in Washington state from Sycamore Partners. The deal saw the private-equity firm keep Ste. Michelle Wine Estates’ assets in Oregon.

When the transaction was announced in December, Bowman – then Ste. Michelle Wines Estates’ chief commercial officer – and Anna Mosier, the group’s CFO and chief supply-chain officer, were set out as the co-CEOs of the new Washington business.

Bowman was then subsequently named CEO, with Mosier appointed president and CFO.

Bowman’s LinkedIn profile says he worked as Ste. Michelle CEO until March and "led the company’s transition to private ownership" after four years under private-equity firm Sycamore.

Alongside the news of the new CEO, long-time executive Dan Heller has been named chief commercial officer and Court Wyckoff’s executive chairman of the board.

Ste. Michelle said the appointments underscore its “long-term succession planning and its commitment to deepening executive bench strength while driving performance under local ownership”.

Brands in the Ste. Michelle Wine Estates stable include Chateau Ste. Michelle, 14 Hands, Columbia Crest, Liquid Light, Estival, Ethos, Spring Valley Vineyard, and Northstar.

Sycamore Partners acquired Ste. Michelle Wine Estates from Altria Group in 2021.

The private-equity firm has retained the company’s Oregon holdings A to Z, Erath and Rex Hill. Amy Prosenjak continues to lead that business.

Established in 1950 in Washington state, the third-generation Wyckoff family business produces “premium” wine grapes, custom wines, and other agricultural products across Washington, Idaho, and Oregon, Ste. Michelle Wine Estates said in December.
